Holistic Healing for Happier Pets

Acupuncture

Natural Solutions for Lifelong Wellness

Acupuncture is a time-honored practice that promotes healing and wellness in animals. By stimulating specific points on the body with fine needles, acupuncture helps to enhance circulation, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. This natural therapy supports the body's own healing mechanisms, making it an effective treatment for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory problems, and neurological disorders. Acupuncture not only addresses physical ailments but also improves overall well-being, helping your pets lead healthier, happier lives. Whether as a standalone therapy or in conjunction with conventional treatments, acupuncture offers a gentle, holistic approach to veterinary care.

Laser Therapy

Gentle Treatment, Profound Results

Laser therapy is a cutting-edge treatment that accelerates healing and reduces pain in animals. Using concentrated light energy, laser therapy penetrates deep into tissues, promoting cellular repair and enhancing blood flow. This non-invasive technique effectively reduces inflammation, alleviates pain, and speeds up recovery from injuries, surgeries, and chronic conditions such as arthritis. Laser therapy is gentle and well-tolerated by pets, offering a quick and stress-free way to improve their quality of life. Whether for acute injuries or long-term health management, laser therapy is a powerful tool in modern veterinary medicine, helping your pets heal faster and feel better.

Pain Relieving Injections

Proven Performers

For both pets & people, pain occurs when chemical messengers travel along a network of nerves from the source (knee, hip, back) and sound an alarm in the brain.  This complex signaling pathway can be interrupted at many points, sparing your pet from suffering with pain.  Working in conjunction with your primary veterinarian, Dr. Sherrod tailors a safe, effective, & personalized treatment plan for your pet by blending ancient healing arts with the science of modern medicine.  Acupuncture & laser therapy offer pain relief without the risk of harsh side effects, unlike some conventional drugs which can upset the stomach or even damage vital organs.  The addition of injectable pain relief provides select patients with more effective, broad-spectrum treatment, often allowing them to stop meds causing harmful side effects.  For instance, Adequan injections improve the lubricating power of joint fluid, alleviating pain from elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia, and other degenerative conditions.  For other dogs & cats, monthly monoclonal antibody injections (Librela or Solensia) target the nerves which signal pain  in arthritic joints & can vastly improve their quality of life.  Patients with intense or refractory pain can receive comfort using low-dose ketamine injections or even morphine-derivatives.  Most importantly, Dr. Sherrod works hand-in-hand with you as a pet parent to find the approach best suited for your beloved companion.

Hospice & Palliative Care

Campassionate Care for Every Life Stage

Pets experience many of the same life-altering and life-ending illnesses as people, including various cancers and end-stage kidney disease. These illnesses greatly impact a patient's quality of life due to loss of appetite, dehydration, and uncontrolled pain. Dr. Sherrod is pleased to be able to provide compassionate care in the comfort of home when your pet needs it most.

End of Life Care

A Peaceful Farewell, Wrapped in Love.

Many families would prefer to have their loved ones remain in the comfort of home as they say farewell. In-home euthanasia can provide an opportunity to honor the life of a beloved cat or dog as we embrace them in care and alleviate their suffering. Top Questions

Your Most Important Questions, Answered

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

Think of a comfortable place in your home where your pet can relax during their initial exam & treatment session.  This may be on a couch, chair, or a favorite bed on the floor.  Be prepared with favorite treats or toys to provide a sense of calm & security as they undergo treatment.  Take time to reflect on the concerns that led you to seek treatment.  You may even choose to video behaviors to share with Dr. Sherrod as she seeks to better understand your furry friend’s needs.  Finally, make a mental or written list of your concerns, as well as medications and supplements which your pet is currently taking.  Providing Dr. Sherrod with the actual dosing information (how much in mg’s & how often you’re giving) will assist her in tailoring a treatment plan for optimal results.  Plan to block out 90 minutes for this initial session.  Ongoing visits are typically 30-45 minutes, depending on treatments involved.

What should I expect from my first session?

No white coats, thermometers, or gloves will greet your pet as Dr. Sherrod enters their home territory, their safe place.  Her goal is to establish trust with your pet from the outset in order for the most effective healing to take place.  Your pet will have time to sniff, nudge, receive belly rubs, and/or enjoy treats while you & Dr. Sherrod discuss their history, your concerns, as well as your goals for treatment.  If mobility and/or pain are concerns, Dr. Sherrod will observe your pet in motion, as they walk on a leash or attempt stairs.  Baseline video may be collected & key information will be entered into your pet’s digital medical record.  A head-to-toe exam will then be performed, palpating along the neck, spine, and limbs, focusing on range of motion in joints and seeking to detect areas of pain and inflammation.  Heart rate, pulse quality, hydration status, & abdominal palpation will also be evaluated.  Based on all this information as well as a prior review of your pet’s medical records, Dr. Sherrod will share her assessment and treatment recommendations.  She will assist you in understanding the benefits and limitations of available options.  Once you select a treatment plan for your pet, we will devote the remainder of the visit to treatment, which may include the soothing comfort of therapeutic laser, the deep relaxation of acupuncture, or the administration of injectable pain relief.

Do you help treat terminal or chronic illness?

Absolutely!  Comfort care is central to Dr. Sherrod’s approach for all patients, particularly for those in need of hospice.  Palliative treatments can greatly enhance quality of life by relieving pain, improving mobility, boosting appetite, alleviating nausea, & improving hydration.  Pet parents are an integral part of patient care for those facing chronic or terminal conditions, as you are best positioned to assess your friend’s day-to-day quality of life.  Dr. Sherrod helps ensure that you are equipped for the nursing needs of your patient by providing training, resources, & recommendations for their care.  Likewise, she will be there to assist you with the difficult decision-making involved in this part of your pet’s journey.
